Girls Scout of USA

GOLD & SILVER Awards

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the most prestigious award that Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors can earn. Fulfilling the requirements for the Gold Award starts with having earned the Silver Award and completing one Senior or Ambassador Journey. Each Journey you complete gives you the skills you need to plan and implement your Take Action project. After you have fulfilled the Journey(s) requirement, 80 hours is the suggested minimum amount of time for completing the steps: identifying an issue, investigating it thoroughly, getting help and building a team, creating a plan, presenting your plan, gathering feedback, taking action, and educating and inspiring others.

After many month of brainstorming on my Gold Award project, I decided on Teen Wellness. I saw my peers making poor decisions about health, fitness and lack of knowledge. My Gold Award started by creating a Club at CdM High, early second semester of school Covid-19 pandemic shutdown occurred. We persevered and continued our club via Zoom meetings and Zoom workouts. It was important our group kept taps on each other during the difficult time. We supported each other emotionally and physically in small ways. With social distance, we dropped off notes or cookies at front doors, just small gestures to say “I am thinking of you.”

That summer, I wanted to document my thoughts on Teen Wellness. I wrote and published self-help handbook on Healthy Body, Mind & Spirit (Fit-4-Life).

FIT-4-LIFE Handbook

Author & Publisher

It all began with an observation of Teens choosing easy option without thinking about consequences. We can be lazy and lack motivation. During Coronavirus pandemic, I begin to write and published a self-help handbook to inform 21st century teens about wellness. My goal is to share importance of nutrition and physical activities: food labels, food choices (eat this - instead of that), fun ways to exercise, stress management, importance of water and sleep, time management, meditation, gratitude and more.

Healthy body will result in healthy mind: building habits and routines one day at a time.
